The Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa, on 5th and 6th February 2026<\/strong>, led a high-level Government delegation to Nakuru and Baringo<\/strong> counties to oversee critical water sector initiatives aimed at strengthening water security and improving service delivery in the Central Rift Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit began in Nakuru County,<\/strong> where the Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (CRVWWDA)<\/strong> hosted the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Mr. Julius Korir,<\/strong> CBS, for the flag-off and handover of critical operational equipment.<\/strong> The equipment, procured under the Malaba Water Supply and Sanitation Project and funded by the Government of Kenya and the African Development Bank (AfDB),<\/strong> was handed over to the Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency for use by the Busia Water and Sewerage Services Company (BUWASCO).<\/strong> It included one 7-tonne truck, a potable water tanker, a sewage suction tanker, and four motorcycles, intended to enhance operational efficiency, emergency response, and sustainable service delivery. In addition, two motorcycles procured under the Suswa Water Supply Project were handed over to the Narok Water and Sewerage Company<\/strong> to improve access, response time, and vandalism control along the Suswa pipeline corridor.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later in the morning, the Cabinet Secretary witnessed the transfer of bulk water from Baringo to Nakuru, a strategic intervention designed to augment water supply in Nakuru while promoting<\/strong> sustainable inter-county water resource sharing. Speaking during the exercise, Eng. Mugaa emphasized the significance of shared water infrastructure in supporting national development.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe transfer of bulk water from Baringo to Nakuru and the operational support to water service providers demonstrate the Government\u2019s commitment to regional cooperation, efficiency, and sustainable water management,\u201d<\/em> said Eng. Mugaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon of the first day,<\/strong> the Cabinet Secretary handed over additional operational equipment to Chemususu Water and Sanitation Company (CHEWASCO).<\/strong> The support package included eight motorcycles, a JCB backhoe, a mobile workshop, and over 200 metres of surveying tools,<\/strong> aimed at strengthening field operations, maintenance capacity, and overall service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On day two of the tour, the Cabinet Secretary proceeded to the headquarters of Baringo County-Kabarnet Town to inspect the ongoing Kirandich Phase II Water Supply and Sanitation Project,<\/strong> a flagship initiative expected to significantly expand water supply coverage in Baringo Central and Baringo North sub-counties, while improving sanitation services within Kabarnet Town.<\/strong> Upon completion, the project will provide reliable water services to tens of thousands of residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKirandich Phase II is a transformative project for Baringo County. We are encouraged by the progress achieved and will continue to ensure timely completion in line with approved quality standards,\u201d said Eng. Mugaa.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation<\/strong>, the CRVWWDA Chairman, Hon. Mathenge Ndiritu<\/strong>, CRVWWDA Board Director, Dr. Daniel Tuitoek<\/strong>, and the Chief Executive Officer, CPA Douglas Murei<\/strong>, who provided detailed briefings on project implementation, timelines, and anticipated impact. Reaffirming the Agency\u2019s mandate, the CRVWWDA CEO emphasized the focus on quality, accountability and sustainability in delivering water infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit also brought together legislators from the affected constituencies and wards, as well as the Deputy Governors of Baringo and Nakuru counties, Mr. Felix Kipng\u2019ok and Mr. David Kones, respectively, highlighting strong collaboration between the National and County Governments in advancing water and sanitation development.
The two-day inspection tour concluded with a confirmation of the Parent Ministry\u2019s support for continued investment in water infrastructure, positioning water as a key enabler of socio-economic development and improved service delivery in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
